You’re gonna hear a lot in the next couple of years about Suboxone/Subutex/Bupremorphine and MAT(medication assisted treatment) in general. You’re gonna hear the abysmal statistics about abstinence-based treatment, how it’s old fashioned and not ‘evidence-based.’ Loudmouth borderlines are gonna talk about how punitive and archaic 12-step programs are. You’re gonna be told by doctors and other ‘experts’ that there is a new way to be sober. A shot. Or a pill. Or a strip.
The one thing I hope you as addicts will stop for a second and ask yourselves — because it will all sound very convincing, it will sound hopeful — is why do all these people give a fuck about drug addicts all of a sudden? Nobody gives a fuck about drug addicts. Why are pharmaceutical companies and doctors and all the propagandists turning their attention to drug addiction? Because now there are millions of us. Desperate. Confused. Wanting a way out. We finally matter now because there are billions and billions of dollars to be made. This is America. Follow the money!

Love and compassion cost nothing. Human kindness is free. Telling the truth is priceless. Sharing ourselves with one another is humanity’s greatest gift. Community. Art. Creativity. Empathy. These are the things I believe in. Get well, help someone else get well. This, in my belief, is the only solution!
